Tuscany, Italy, November 2023: Following the resounding success of the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome, the Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort on the Monte Argentario promontory in the Maremma region of Tuscany will host the Italian Open on the DP World Tour in late Spring 2025.
The Resort, which is home to the only course in the country with PGA National Italy status, has been given the honour of staging the 82nd edition of this prestigious event (exact dates yet to be announced) at the Argentario Golf Club and will welcome an international field of top European golfers.
“As the owner of Argentario, I could not be more proud to be hosting Italy’s National Open in 2025 and I know that the whole team at the Resort is also looking forward to being a part of this momentous week and to welcoming both players and spectators,” comments Augusto Orsini, Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort.
“The Italian Open will be a fantastic opportunity to showcase our championship course and our golf and wellness resort as well as the region of the Maremma which has so much to offer in terms of nature, cultural and historical cities, charming hilltop towns as well as a host of water sports, trekking and cycling options.”
Thanks to support from the Italian Golf Federation (FIG), Franco Chimenti, the region of Tuscany, the President of Tuscany, Eugenio Giani, and Regional Councillor Leonardo Marras, the Italian Open returns to Tuscany after more than 40 years.
Adrian Meronk is the current Italian Open champion following his victory in May at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, the venue for this year’s Ryder Cup. The Pole, who narrowly missed out on a place in Luke Donald’s European team, held off two Frenchmen, Romain Langasque and Julian Guerrier, to win by a shot.
The par 71, 6,218 metre Argentario golf course was established in 2006 and awarded PGA National status in 2019 by The PGA, joining an exclusive collection of some of the finest golf layouts in Europe including Gleneagles (PGA National Scotland), the PGA National Cyprus at Aphrodite Hills and the Antalya Golf Resort which is the PGA National Turkey.
Located in a protected natural area just five minutes from the Duna Feniglia Nature Reserve, Argentario overlooks the Orbetello Lagoon, the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Monte Argentario hillside to offer breathtaking panoramas from almost every hole on the course.
Both the course and driving range were designed by the architect, David Mezzacane, and professional golfer, Baldovino Dassù with several holes subsequently reshaped by Brian Jorgensen. The front nine weaves its way around the rugged hillside and natural Mediterranean vegetation featuring cork-oak woods whilst the back nine meanders in and out of ancient olive groves with a number of water hazards regularly coming into play.
A refreshing breeze mitigates the temperature whilst adding an extra challenge to the game which, on this course, requires a combination of accuracy and power.
All this guarantees that this varied and technically-challenging course will provide a good test for the visiting professionals in June 2025. The players will no doubt appreciate the Argentario Golf Academy with its extensive driving range and practice facilities.
On the accommodation side, the Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort is home to 73 design suites and rooms and a collection of luxury villas set in 77 hectares of typical natural Tuscan terrain where many of the players will stay during the tournament.
In addition to an extensive 2,700 m² Espace Wellness Centre which includes a gym, heated indoor swimming pool and humid zone, the property offers a variety of fitness activities and two restaurants serving delicious local cuisine, one fine dining and the other relaxed and informal.
The first 5-star Resort in Italy and one of the few Golf Resorts in Europe to belong to the golf portfolio of the largest and most prestigious hospitality group in the world, the Marriott International group. As a member of Marriott Bonvoy, guests benefit from a loyalty program that allows all travellers to collect points and transform them into benefits, free stays and much more.
Argentario is just 90 minutes by car from Rome Fiumicino Airport and two hours from Rome Ciampino Airport.
