Grenada’s Moliniére Underwater Sculpture Park has been given a major upgrade – expanding by 31 new pieces.
Originally created by Jason deCaires Taylor in 2006, Grenada’s underwater sculpture park is the first of its kind in the world and the inspiration for all of Taylor’s subsequent projects. The expansion features 5 new unique installations, including a collection of 25 new sculptures titled “Coral Carnival” by Taylor.
In addition to Coral Carnival, there are 4 installations by Troy Lewis: La Diablese, Mama Glo, Bele Dancer and the Leatherback Turtle. Taylor also replaced two of the original sculptures.
About the New Collection:
The Coral Carnival draws inspiration from Grenada’s vibrant annual carnival called: Spicemas. The sculpture procession portrays a range of symbolic carnival characters each celebrating the country’s rich culture and history. The 25 sculptures that make up Coral Carnival capture the essence of some of Grenada’s most iconic masqueraders.
Adorned with jewels, sequins and feathers, the sculptures are distinctively painted, temporarily recreating the vibrancy of Caribbean carnival’s until the abundant surrounding marine life takes hold and replaces it with its own bright coloration and texture.
Snorkel & Dive-Friendly
Suitable to both snorkelers and divers, the sculptural works were created using high-grade stainless steel and pH-neutral marine cement with diverse habitat spaces integrated into each design for marine creatures to inhabit.
