In addition to competitive golf rounds, participants and their families will have the opportunity to explore the Island’s rich cultural heritage, from experiencing 500 years of history in Old San Juan to savoring its culinary delights, engaging in adventure at El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System and relax on its beautiful beaches from the east to the west coast of Puerto Rico. Discover Puerto Rico also invites those visiting the Island to ‘Live Boricua,’ reflecting a campaign currently running and born out of the essence of Puerto Rico. Created to celebrate Boricuas and rooted in the spirit of the Island, it embodies a state of mind and a way of life that exemplifies Puerto Rico’s proud, passionate people.
This will not be the first time the AJGA has conducted a tournament in Puerto Rico. From 2011 through 2016. Many recognizable names played in some of the early tournaments in Puerto Rico, including Sam Burns (2012), Cameron Champ (T2, 2013), Wyndham Clark (2012) and Emiliano Grillo (5th, 2011). The Puerto Rico Golf Association continues to be a partner with the AJGA to bring junior golf to the island.
“We are thrilled to have the AJGA back in Puerto Rico,” said Puerto Rico Golf Association President Sidney Wolf. “The AJGA has been such a great partner for us over the years and the work they do with young people is extraordinary. Tournaments like this give us the opportunity to show off Puerto Rican golf and also expose our juniors to top talent from around the world.”
