Anguilla, September 17, 2024: The Anguilla Tourist Board (ATB) and the Ministry of Tourism (MOT) are excited to announce the dates for this year’s Tourism Week 2024. A week filled with productive, informative, and enjoyable events will take place throughout the island from Sunday, November 24th to Saturday, November 30th.
The ATB has embraced the United Nations’ World Tourism Day theme: “Tourism and Peace: Encouraging Travel Experiences That Foster Mutual Respect and Cultural Exchange.” This theme highlights the connection between travel and the promotion of global harmony, illustrating how tourism can act as a catalyst for fostering peace and understanding among nations and cultures.
As stated in the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s concept note for World Tourism Day, “Tourism creates fertile ground for innovation and entrepreneurship. By fostering creative solutions and new business models, tourism can spur economic growth and provide unique opportunities for young talent. Supporting entrepreneurial initiatives in tourism can lead to sustainable development and form platforms for innovative peace-building strategies. The future of tourism lies in youth. By investing in young people, offering education and training opportunities, and encouraging their active involvement in the tourism sector, we can harness their potential to drive social change and promote peace. Young talent brings fresh perspectives, creativity, and energy that are vital for the ongoing evolution of tourism as a force for good.”
Considering the World Tourism Day theme, Director of Tourism Mrs. Stacey Liburd emphasized that tourism is the leading economic sector on the island, creating numerous jobs and contributing significantly to the island’s revenue. “It is essential for us to recognize and celebrate the industry and its stakeholders every year while also addressing the challenges and opportunities ahead. With a high percentage of returning visitors, we value the meaningful connections and partnerships that develop between our residents and guests, which are mutually beneficial for all involved.”
Minister of Tourism, the Honorable Haydn Hughes adds, “Anguilla is fortunate to possess the most sought-after treasures that travelers desire—beautiful beaches, excellent accommodations, outstanding dining options, and, above all, our warm and friendly people who bring a rich cultural heritage. We acknowledge the vital role of tourism in driving economic growth, generating employment, and encouraging cultural exchange. Travel, cultural interaction, and sustainable tourism practices undoubtedly play a significant role in promoting reconciliation and fostering peace globally.”
