Good food and fine wine always go hand in hand and no more so than in the land of plenty – Tuscany
As autumn approaches, the Tuscan hills and valleys are filled with activity from vegetable gardens to the olive groves, vineyards to forests, the game is well and truly on to harvest ingredients at their freshest and most flavoursome. Tuscany is renowned for it’s simple yet excellent regional specialities and along with well known dishes come some excellent wine choices. From crisp perfumed whites perfectly suited for a light aperitivo through to rich vibrant reds, bold enough to compliment red meats, Tuscany has it all and more.
One young Tuscan winery making its name on the wine-map of Italy is Monterosola. An impressive sustainably built cantina overlooking the ancient city of Volterra, Monterosola’s wines are breaking the mould when it comes to typical Tuscan wines. Monterosola’s vineyards are flanked by the Val d’Era and Val di Cecina both of which create a constant gentle breeze through the vines keeping them dry and disease free. The terroir is also unique, rich in a variety of minerals and salts, the land is indeed perfect for growing vines. That said, the soil is treated and nurtured with utmost care for many years leading up to planting, ensuring optimum quality grapes.
The Monterosola philosophy honours the past, present and future. With a deep respect to traditional Tuscan wine-making it has to be said that Monterosola’s journey is firmly set on the future. An organic estate, producing first class red and white wines along with olive oil, grappa and conserves, Monterosola embodies the spirit of modern Tuscany, holding on to tradition without being held back.
A destination winery with a difference, Monterosola is the perfect venue for wining and dining with a team of winemakers, guides and sommeliers and numerous entertaining spaces for private events, wine tastings and celebrations. With many gastronomic and viniculture events taking place throughout the year, Monterosola can offer visitors anything from a simple wine tasting through to a masterclass in the organic wine-making process.
This autumn, Monterosola will be teaming up with local chefs, farmers and suppliers to offer guests a chance to really enjoy an authentic taste of Tuscany. With wines being paired with seasonal and 0km ingredients such as pecorino cheeses from the Carai brothers’ family cheese-farm, just 5 minutes away and local beef and pork farmers the Ferri brothers who produce delicious salami and prosciutto. Also, in the diary this autumn is a truffle and wine day dedicated to the celebrating the culinary delights of the elusive Tuscan truffle.
