November 21, 2023. Chicago, IL – The best way to enjoy the holidays in Chicago is to check into SOPHY® Hyde Park, the welcoming 98-room boutique hotel in the historic Hyde Park neighborhood. This year, a holiday version of its popular SOPHY SO-Cozy package is more festive than ever. Check into a SOPHY guestroom and receive two Corkcicle keepsake mugs and warm up with two Hot Toddies, best enjoyed by the double-sided lobby fireplace.
Then, explore the neighborhood with two tickets to the nearby Museum of Science and Industry, which presents the Blue Paradox Exhibit and the annual Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light exhibits. They feature a four-story, floor-to-dome Grand Tree surrounded by a forest of more than 50 trees and displays decorated by volunteers to represent the holiday traditions from cultures around the globe.
At Mesler Chicago, the hotel’s bar and restaurant, the celebrations begin with a festive Kissing Rock cocktail, named for the famous Kissing Rock across the street from the hotel, commemorating the spot where Michelle and Barack Obama shared their first kiss.
Executive Chef Alejandro “Eddie” Arreola was inspired to create a menu of unique entrees for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve. On offer will be Braised Beef Short Rib, served with a truffle potato puree, charred broccoli, and jus. Grilled Colorado Lamb Chops come with corn polenta, Romanesco, and a black olive and red wine reduction. The Maple Glazed Duck Breast-braised is served on a bed of red cabbage and apples, with a port reduction, while Honey Mustard Glazed Faroe Island Salmon is prepared with Red Kuri Squash puree, mushrooms, pomegranate, and jus.
