DUCK KEY, Fla. – February 16 , 2023 – Known for its prime location for some of the country’s most highly-rated water-based activities, Hawks Cay, the largest resort in the Florida Keys, announces a new operational partnership with Better Than Most SCUBA, who will offer new scuba courses, excursions and activities for resort guests conveniently from the Hawks Cay marina.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the official outpost of Better Than Most SCUBA at Hawks Cay,” said Sheldon Suga, vice president managing director of the resort. “Guests now have more activities to keep them entertained and engaged with our local wildlife at the resort, with new scuba—and by extension spearfishing and lobstering—joining our long list of outdoor amenities that visitors can enjoy in the world-famous Florida Keys.”
Sitting in the middle Keys, Hawks Cay is a great homebase to go diving with multiple reef sites located within close distance, as well as the Wreck of the Thunderbolt. Marine life like tropical fish, coral, eels, lobsters, crabs, turtles, nurse sharks, and dolphins often frequent these sites, adding to the attraction divers feel toward exploring the Keys.
The duo behind Better Than Most SCUBA, Schwenke and Jeanie, has collectively taught scuba diving for more than 40 years. Alongside dive trips for certified divers, the diving company offers a range diving courses at multiple experience levels from entry to professional, along with lobstering and spearfishing programs for more experienced divers.
“It’s been thrilling to partner with Hawks Cay and bring our diving expertise and passion for ocean safety to guests at the resort,” said Co-Founder of Better Than Most SCUBA, Jason Schwenke. “Hawks Cay is positioned perfectly for divers to take advantage of the less visited and more untouched reefs, as there isn’t another dive operator for 10 miles in either direction. We’re certain that master divers and newbies alike will enjoy their experience in our care.”
With its Coast Guard-certified vessel, the Diane Marie, Better Than Most SCUBA prioritizes small-group exploration instead of engaging in over-tourism – taking only 15 divers or less out each trip. Aboard the vessel is always water, fresh fruit, and reef-safe sunscreen.
Hawks Cay’s guests ready to get their toes wet need not venture too far around the property. In addition to the new scuba offerings, the 60-acre resort also provides guests access to paddleboarding, kayaking, diving, pickleball, tennis, biking, a Dolphin facility and many more amenities that allow guests to enjoy the year-round warm weather without leaving the island.
