SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (March 9, 2022) – Major League Baseball’s Cactus League Spring Training should be in full swing. However, like so often the past couple of years, we’ve been thrown another curveball. Don’t fret, there’s great fun to be had in Scottsdale during the spring, especially for golf travelers.
With 50 golf courses within city limits and more than 200 within a 30-minute drive, there’s plenty of great golf to choose from. While most serious golfers are familiar with the biggest names in Scottsdale golf, here are three more can’t-miss courses you might not know:
- TPC Scottsdale Champions Course:
Even non-golfers have heard of TPC Scottsdale’s Stadium Course, home of the PGA TOUR’s celebrated Waste Management Phoenix Open, the Greatest Show on Grass. If funds allow, it is quite simply a must-play, bucket-list item for every serious fan of the game.
However, fewer realize TPC Scottsdale offers a second course – the Champions Course. It doesn’t get the fanfare of its big brother, but it is very, very good with fantastic mountain views, plenty of challenge and outstanding playing conditions. Plus, locals know it’s one of the best values in town.
- Talking Stick Golf Club:
The Coore & Crenshaw-designed Saguaro Course at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club is widely known as one of Arizona’s best. What’s less known is that Talking Stick Golf Club offers two fantastic Coore & Crenshaw-designs of its own.
Talking Sticks’ O’odham Course is a links-inspired desert course with broad shoulders, low-profile greens and close-cropped approaches. The Piipaash Course is a traditional parkland design with tree-lined fairways and raised greens. And, like their sibling at We-Ko-Pa, the two offer outstanding views of Scottsdale’s McDowell Mountains without a home in sight.
- Mountain Shadows Short Course:
- Speaking of mountain vistas, they don’t get much better than those at The Short Course at Mountain Shadows. Nestled at the base of Scottsdale’s iconic Camelback Mountain, this 18-hole, par-3 design presents a spectacularly fun golf experience in an unbeatable setting. Along with the views and the golf, you’ll get a healthy dose of Scottsdale’s mid-century modern cool, as well.
Regardless of which courses you add to your itinerary, you’ll find Scottsdale to be ideal throughout the spring. Skies are almost always sunny (330 days a year, thank you very much) and the temperature hovers around the mid-80s. When you finish your round, the fun won’t end. Old Town Scottsdale is hoping with great restaurants and bars and special events happening each weekend.
